DICE ROLLS

Success and failure in your attack attempts is meted out by way of a basic dice roll.
You can perform a roll20 in World of Warcraft by typing out /roll 20 in your chat box.
Don't forget the '20'! Simply typing out /roll results in a roll out of 100.

nat1 = CRITICAL FAILURE ( PLAYER TAKES -1DMG )
2-7 = UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT ( NO DMG DEALT )
8-13 = GOOD ATTEMPT  ( -1DMG DEALT )
14-18 = GREAT ATTEMPT ( -2DMG DEALT )
19+ = FANTASTIC ATTEMPT! ( -3DMG DEALT )
nat20 = CRITICAL DAMAGE DEALT! ( -4DMG DEALT )

EQUIPPABLE ITEMS

Augment your rolls, grow your character's skills and increase your statistics with the Compendium's item system!

Players utilizing the Champion's Compendium system can earn Coins (or whatever you'd like to rename the currency)
via participation in guild events, daily quests, server events - whatever works for you and your group!

These coins can then be used to purchase in-character items, all of which are listed by slot -
Headpieces, Chest Armor, Gloves, Waist
pieces, Boots, Neckpieces, Rings, Trinkets and Weapon Enchantments.

With hundreds of available items to earn in a multitude of in-character uses,
each can easily turn the tide of battle against your foes and aid your allies in dire times.

In the base system of the Compendium, players are free to earn as many items as they can purchase,
but can only have two items and one Weapon enchantment equipped at a time.
Feel free to expand upon this limit for your own adventures!

PLAYER

Player phases are where players roll to attack, heal, defend, perform specialized actions,
or otherwise emote.

"PLAYER PHASE" is announced in /raid warning in-game. This is your cue to act!

You can, at this point, unless
instructed otherwise by the DM:

• Roll out of 20 and include your item effects.
(...and your role buffs, if they're included!)

• Strike at an enemy if you succeed, or, perform an intended action such as moving, preparing an attack, healing an ally or lending your roll total to an ally. Don't forget to ask your DM if you're unsure about an action you can take!

• Emote as necessary to convey your character's intentions.

PHASES

Gameplay in the Compendium's system alternates, as most d20 systems do, between Player phases and Enemy phases.
Players are controlled by the roleplayers, and Enemies are controlled (mainly) by the Dungeon Master, or DM (usually the leader/host).

THE ENEMY
THE ROLL

Our brave heroine Rilennia has been tasked with managing a menacing
gang of murlocs that has been roughing up a nearby farmstead in Westfall!
She sets out to investigate and dispatch them.

She comes across a murloc raider that has let its guard down.
The DM indicates that it's
Player Phase! The murloc has 3HP.

To start her phase, Rilennia then rolls a 17 out of 20! Lucky!

She gets to use her Intellect modifier, as well, since she's attacking with a spellcast! This bumps up her attack result by 3. [17 + 3 = 20]

Even better: since Rilennia is a Damage-specialized character,
her Critical damage range is lowered from a
nat20 to 20+!

This means she deals -4DMG. The murloc is thusly vanquished!

Rilennia would then emote in /raid accordingly about attacking the murloc!

[Raid] Riley strikes down the opposing murloc with a mighty
frostbolt before it has a chance to attack her! (20, -4DMG)

This would end the Player Phase. Not every enemy can be defeated in one turn - in fact, you'll find it's quite the opposite! Most types of combat last anywhere from four to six of these 'rounds', depending on your DM. That's not including bossfights!

THE EMOTE
Enemies are usually designated by these markers in-game!

ENEMy

Enemy phases are where the DM rolls to attack,
moves enemies around, performs specialized actions
or otherwise emotes on behalf of the enemy targets.

The DM will announce "ENEMY PHASE" in /raid warnings. They will then roll for each enemy in the playing field, and emote accordingly based on their results.

The DM will then typically select players that have damage dealt to them, or status effects and movement that might incur based on their dice results or the combat scenario.

It's important (and respectful!) to follow the instructions of the DM during this phase to the letter - including damage dealt to your character, where they might have been moved in the playing field, status effects and even mechanics that might rely on the DM's storytelling - and the dice results!

Your mileage may vary, and your experience is what you put into it! Be courteous to your DM and enjoy the story told.
