SPECIAL MECHANICS: TRAITS
The Champion's Compendium system utilizes a firm yet fair version of Perception rolls; one that involves traits that a player can choose for non-combat use that makes special use of their in-character abilities.
No longer does a player have to OOCly feel left out in an event, or like their experiences are wholly based on dice, especially if they refuse to stack Wisdom or Intelligence for Perception checks; if their character would truly know the depth of the latest town gossip about the enemy, how much that found rare jewel would be worth, the ending of the spooky ghost story that adds a hint to the latest event or the chemical reaction of mixing those two ingredients together - it will be much more likely to show in the dice results.

A player can pick only 2 (TWO) traits in which to specialize. These are open to be changed at any time; they just can’t be changed during the course of an event.
HOW TRAITS ARE USED
Traits are simple for a DM to use. They simply factor in normal Perception checks as they would have previously, but add an addendum at the end of their DM emote towards which Trait would be applicable in the circumstance. If a player has that trait, they get to use their bonus roll.
Everyone else rolls a base 20 for their perception if they do not have the trait that corresponds with the intended Perception roll.
It’s most important to note that these traits do not give bonuses to combat rolls, unless noted by the DM at the time of the event.
They are purely intended to give Perception bonuses based on the IC professions or skills of the character using them.

APPRAISER

CARTOGRAPHER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls requiring maps, globes or general-purpose senses of direction.
ARCHAEOLOGIST
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving locating and appraising the scholastic worth of fossils, carvings or relics.
GOURMAND
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls regarding food, cooking, ingredients or recipes!
TINKER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving machines, mechs, clockwork and other tinker-y things.
ANGLER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving fishing, fish knowledge or baiting and catching the Big One.
HISTORIAN
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving knowledge of royalty, lineage, wars, foundings of cities - etc.!
INNKEEPER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving local legends, inhabitants, laws, customs and traditions.
SPELUNKER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving caverns, caves and exploration of underground areas in general.
GREEN THUMB
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving botany, plants, fruits, vegetables, herbs and holistic medicine. Can pertain to growing and the utilization thereof.
ALPINIST
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving knowledge of lands and terrains as they are. [ not stationary maps, but in-the-moment awareness of what's going on with the ground beneath their feet ]
ALCHEMIST
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving potions; brewing, knowledge and discernment of potions.
LINGUIST
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving speaking varying languages or dialects of a language.
TAILOR
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving cloth, tailoring, fabric or sewing actions. Functionality over fashion!
SMITHY
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving forging, metalworking or repairs of plate gear.
ACTOR
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving acting out, impersonations or conveying convincing emotions. Doesn't necessarily have to mean you're charismatic, just a good impersonator or a skilled liar!
BREWMASTER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving brew, ale, grog - any sort of imbibing. Either more tolerant of brews, more knowledgeable or able to create brews from scratch with little effort.
COMEDIAN
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving joke telling, sarcasm, stand-up - essentially things related to breaking the ice or lifting the mood.
ARTIST
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving sketching, painting, sculpting or general purpose creation of artistic endeavors.
BODYBUILDER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving working out, muscle building, general swole-ness. Able to converse with like-minded and built people easily, or show off their own guns to distract or converse as a point of reference!
INSECT COLLECTOR
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving bugs, bug collecting, identification, knowledge or capture of bugs and varying insects of all shapes and sizes across Azeroth. ( Spiders aren't insects. )
GHOST HUNTER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving knowledge of the occult; possession, ghosts, eerie presences and spirits.
SAILOR
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving knowledge of sailing, boats, ships and nautical terms; can include repairs or functionality of ships as a whole!
STARGAZER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving stars, space, star patterns, navigation by starlight and astrology.
WOODSMAN
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving trees, lumber, lumber yards, sawmills - shaping things from wood, generally!
MUSICIAN
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving singing, playing an instrument, or knowing songs & hymns.
BOMBARDIER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to bombs, missiles, projectiles, rockets & fireworks - if it explodes, it counts!
JEWELER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving gemstones, jewelry, the acquiring precious minerals and detection of false riches.
FASHIONISTA
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving textile value knowledge, fashion trends & influences. Values form over function.
LEATHERWORKER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving the tanning, crafting and shaping of animal hides into malleable leathers and workable material.
SCRIBE
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving writing, note-taking, transcribing or forgery.
AVICULTURIST
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving avians - bird-keeping, bird rearing, flight patterns, favored bird seed, chicken glasses and more.
ZOOKEEPER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving the taming, control, speaking-to or general knowledge of living animals native to Azeroth and beyond.
BARRISTER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving local and widespread laws of varying organizations, regulations, rules and the fine print of contracts.
BUTCHER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving knowing how to kill and butcher varying animals for food preparation.
Does not give a bonus to damage rolls; rather, showcases learned techniques of making the best of a kill.
Courtier / courtesan
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving flirting and using their wiles to get under the skin of their chosen target. Skilled in flattery and entertaining actions like dances and games to garner attention.
PHYSICIAN
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving understanding medical treatments performed on targets, enemies or player characters.
Does not give a bonus to healing rolls; rather, showcases learned medical knowledge like surgical techniques and known maladies.
SOLDIER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving reading and understanding battle plans, plotting tactics and executing war strategies.
TRACKER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving tracking - situational awareness towards scanning for signs and searching; indicators of footprints, vehicle tracks, scuffs, disturbed soil, etc.
Equestrian
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving general horse riding, performing on horseback, transportation, competitive sports or practical working purposes.
GUNSMITH
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving study and intimate knowledge of firearms, including loading, cleaning, disassembly, ballistics and ammunition types.
CLERGYMAN
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving prayer, rites, religion, matters of the church, religious studies and knowledge of holy texts.
CLERK
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving bookkeeping, taxes and tithes, accounting, and general number crunching.
SCHOLAR
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving studying a particular subject, magical or non-magical in origin. Could pertain to squires, apprentices and underlings.
GUARDSMAN

Gambler
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving knowledge of games and opportunities of chance, dice rolls, lucky opportunity and cards.
MIDWIFE
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving knowledge of delivering and raising children from infants onward. Can pertain to wet nurses or specialized medicines.
Noble
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving high class society - rigid manners, fancy dress, societal norms and polite conversation.
MINER
Advantage roll + Wisdom to rolls involving the retrieval of ores and core samples from the earth, along with processing and prospecting.
